3 Simple Ways to Improve Your Intuition

Many of us have more time for reflection these days, so put that time to use by being mindful about cultivating your intuition. Intuition is a powerful tool in life. The more tuned in you are to your intuition, the easier life will flow. Not to say there won’t be obstacles, but you will have greater confidence as you navigate.

Nurture a strong relationship with your intuition so you can live in harmony with the flow of the universe and the rhythm of your soul.

3 Simple Ways to Improve Your Intuition

1. Talk To Yourself – Get in the habit of asking yourself questions. Does this paper need more revisions? Do I need anything else while I’m in the grocery store? Is there something else in this situation that I should be aware of before proceeding?

Ask the question and then pause. Not an urgent pause or an anxious pause, just take a neutral pause. See if you get a sense of anything. If you don’t feel anything particular, think about the word ‘no’ for a moment, and then think about the word ‘yes’ for a moment. Like deciding which type of ice cream to have for dessert, which word feels better in relation to your question? That is your answer.

2. Feel When You Listen – Get in the habit of tuning into how you feel when you are listening to someone speak. One of my mentor’s always says, “Only you know what truth feels like.” That is powerful, but it also means that we have to practice knowing what truth feels like. Truth isn’t good or bad. Good and bad are human designations. Truth is neutral, so you will have to know how your body identifies truth as opposed to emotional responses.

Truth is also nuanced by expectations, intentions, and experiences. The truth may be that the speaker is disconnected from their message, that your friend tells you what is going well but omits what is not going well, or that your relative wants you to believe what they are saying when they themselves do not. Take a casual approach to practicing this by tuning into your gut, your heart, your mind, etc. Only you know what truth feels like and how you feel it.

3. Notice Your Thoughts – Your mind is constantly chattering unless you are meditating. Get in the habit of questioning your internal dialogue. Is this my thought? Where did this thought come from? Is this thought helpful? If you have an uneasy feeling, have the need for a pause, or have a flash of brilliance, honor that and respond appropriately. Given too much time, the mind will try to rationalize away your intuition. Your intuition will only help you not hurt you.

One word of caution, your intuition will never ask you to harm yourself or others. If this is your experience, please seek professional help.

  2. Meditate

    Focus on the breath
Let thoughts flow on by without impact

    Explore your inner world

    Calm the nervous system
    Feel the body sensations
    Observe
