My family recently moved from the East Coast to the Midwest. Hawks and eagles are plentiful here, thank you corn fields. So for every day bird of prey, there is supposed to be a night bird of prey, an owl. I knew I was bound to see an owl, it was just a matter of time and keeping an eye out.
I got up yesterday morning to feed my dogs and let them outside. There was a huge ‘owl’ on my neighbor’s house, so exciting! Except, as the day dawned, I realized it was their satellite dish, so disappointing.
Later in the afternoon I was out dusk, and I had my eyes peeled and my hopes high. This time I was not disappointed. There was my owl perched on an electrical wire! I stopped my car in the middle of the road, thank you middle of nowhere, and got a good look. It was a beautiful great horned owl. My daughter was in the car with me. She made me feel sane that it was in fact an owl and insane for stopping in the middle of the road. She did not share my joy, but I had enough for both of us!
